Joseph Boyd, the youngest of ten children was born October 22, 1933, in
Harleyville, SC to the late Willie Boyd and Lottie Bryant. His siblings have
all preceded him in death.
Joseph spent his young life working on his family farm until at the age of 19
years old he left South Carolina to come to New York. He worked odd jobs
before he started his career in construction.
Joseph Boyd married Pansy Lee Whack on June 16, 1956. From their
union of marriage, which lasted 61 years, they had two children, Dorinda
Sherell Boyd, and Wendy Violet Boyd.
Joseph was a die-hard Mets fan. He enjoyed playing pool, fishing, hunting,
golfing and was even a caddie in his spare time.
When he wasn’t hard at work, he used his skills to make improvements on
his home. The outdoor grill on the patio remains as an example of his
handiwork.
Joseph became a great grandfather late in his life. When his health began
failing during the last several years, he received a new lease on life when
his great grandchildren were born. He doted on them and lived for their
visits and every story, picture and video that chronicled their young lives.
Joseph leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters: Dorinda Sherell Boyd
and Wendy Violet Boyd; a granddaughter, Nicole Alexandria Hardy; a great
granddaughter, Sommer Zinnia Clayton, a great grandson, Jameson Henry
Clayton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
